Beggar or security guard?

We visited a couple of churches built in the late 1700's. This lady was sitting outside of one. Mom and I gave her a couple of bucks for her supper.

Barb had a touch of car sickness. What is she really praying for?

This church was built by a man who prayed to God to strike it rich in gold. When he did, he promised to build a church and plate it in gold. Which he did.
A bit gaudy for my taste.
